Description
Sephardic or Ashkenazi Tzitzit Set of 4 in 100% Cotton or 100% Linen
The Sephardic Tzitzit are made with the shammash spiraling the cords with four sets of wraps separated by knots in a numerical 10-5-6-5 pattern. The symbolism for this tying pattern is the Set-Apart Name of Elohim. Ten being the equivalent of Yod, Five equalling Hay, Six the letter Vav and then once again Five wraps equaling the last letter Hay, producing the Set-Apart Name YHVH. In Hebrew each letter has a numerical value. If you “add up” the letters of the word tzitzit, it equals 600. Each tzitzit has 8 cords and five knots. This gives a total of 613, the number of all the commandments in the TeNaK (Old Testament). Each tassel contains either a Naturally Indigo Dyed blue cord.
Available in 100% Cotton or 100% Linen..
Why Choose Indigo? The reason Indigo is so favored among believers today is that it is a clean alternative to the unkosher snail (Murex trunculus) dye commonly used. It is the same exact chemical make-up of the traditionally used snail dye, except instead of deriving from the blood of an unclean sea creature, it is made from the natural Indigo plant Indigofera Tinctoria. It is noted by the rabbinates that “Kela Ilan” (Indigofera Tinctoria) has consistently been identified as indigo (Aruch), which is blue. The blue dye obtained from the Murex trunculus snail is molecularly equivalent to the dye obtained from the kela ilan plant. (Royal Purple, p.175; Sterman, p.66). We love the indigo also because the blue shades vary from a deep navy blue to a light sky blue, depending on the length of time spent in the dye vats. All shades are equally beautiful and match the color of the sky at any time of the day or evening. These cords were hand dyed in-house by us especially for you. Most of our cords available are a beautiful dark sky blue shade as pictured here. But we also have non-indigo dyed cords in light sky blue, cobalt blue and navy. You may also decide if you would like your cords to be made with Pure White or Natural Beige Cords.
Loop Sizes: Our standard tassels have a 3 inch top loop for easy attaching to any garment. A 3 inch loop will latch on a hole that is 1.5 inches from the edge of garment. If you need larger loops, just let us know the size you need.
